Pouring out the project

For this project, we were tasked with designing two beer cans based on original concepts that stem from the theme of Ottawa. I chose the brewery Dominion City Brewing because of their current products, values and beliefs. Because the brewery is deeply rooted in community work, I decided to take a historical approach that deep dives into different community-based events.

Last round!

The first design is called the Choppin Trade IPA; it was based on the great Ottawa lumber trade in the early 1800s, which was a job that required a community of hard workers. The workers harvested, treated and sent the lumber up the canal to Quebec and Montreal for trade.

The second design is based on the post-WWII era, when organizations of Ottawa set out to raise morale and build a sense of community throughout the city. They did this by having parades, exhibitions, etc. But the biggest hit was bingo. It became the biggest event of its kind in Canada, having raised around $50,000 through the years that it ran and was all put back into the community.
